West Ham’s Brazilian international Lucas Paquetá has responded to criticism from former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane, now a pundit on British television, over Brazil’s choreographed celebrations at the World Cup.

Brazil swept aside South Korea in their last 16 tie in Qatar, eventually winning 4-1 having been 4-0 up at halftime, and each goal was celebrated with some form of dance. Players were seen in a huddle, a group, dancing on their own, like Paquetá, or performing the ‘Pidgeon’ dance along with coach, Tite. Speaking on ITV, Keane, however, deemed this “disrespectful” to their Korean opponents. The 25-year-old midfielder responded by saying:

“The dance is a representation of our joy after scoring a goal. We don’t do it to disrespect anyone, we don’t do it in front of our opponents. We all get together to celebrate. If they don’t like it, there’s not much to say. We’ll keep scoring goals and keep dancing. This is a group that is happy to score, to get the victory and the goals.”
