Manchester United have received a huge boost in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as it looks increasingly unlikely that he’ll join either West Ham or Liverpool.

Amorim is believed to be one of the players on United’s wishlist of possible Erik ten Hag replacements.

The Dutchman has overseen a very underwhelming and disappointing season that currently has the Red Devils in seventh position in the Premier League after 12 top-flight defeats. United are set to miss out on Champions League football and even qualification for the Europa League seems to be an uphill battle.

Performances and results have often left a lot to be desired, with the team’s most recent display against Coventry City in the semi-final of the FA Cup the latest demonstration of this.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person divulged that Amorim consists of a crop of young and exciting coaches that INEOS believe could possibly come in for Ten Hag if the 54-year-old were to be sacked. Also admired are Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, Michel of Girona and Bologna’s Thiago Motta.

Liverpool, who are also on the hunt for someone to succeed Jurgen Klopp, were thought to be the leading candidates to secure Amorim’s services. However, the Sporting boss himself poured cold water on such rumours as he insisted he has no agreement with any club.

In the past hours, there have been huge developments in the race to land Amorim.

The 39-year-old flew to London on Monday to speak with West Ham regarding David Moyes’ job. The Hammers are set to part ways with Moyes when the season ends and were thought to have earmarked Amorim to assume the hot seat.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the talks between the Irons and the United managerial target weren’t productive and as it stands, he will not be heading over to the London Stadium as his next destination.

Romano also explained that discussions between Liverpool and Amorim’s camp are currently on hold – a turn of events that could give United the lift they needed to pursue Amorim if indeed they press ahead with a move to lure him to Old Trafford.

Indications are that Liverpool have now turned all their attention towards Feyenoord gaffer Arne Slot.

TEAMtalk have corroborated Romano’s information and have noted that United are a party to watch with regard to signing Amorim.

The news outlet states, “West Ham held a meeting with him in London on Monday night and presented their plans to the 39-year-old. However, TEAMtalk can confirm that Amorim was not moved to make a declaration and left England without any agreement.”

“It’s not expected that one will arrive anytime soon and Liverpool are still keen to speak further with the exciting coach. Talks with the Anfield side are on hold and there will likely be a resumption at some point, however Liverpool bosses are speaking with other candidates.”

“Sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk that Amorim has been made available for interview with most of the Premier League’s top sides and if there is a club who really wanted him they simply need to reach out.”

TEAMtalk further divulge, “Manchester United also cannot be discounted from the picture. Although, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team are eager to bring someone in who has the experience needed to handle the pressure that Old Trafford brings. Thomas Tuchel is currently of serious interest and the Red Devils have also got an eye on Zinedine Zidane.”

It more than appears like the race for Amorim is wide open and United are certainly within a chance of making him their next manager.
