While Manchester United were held to an unideal 1-1 draw away at Fulham on Sunday, it wasn’t all doom and gloom for manager Ruben Amorim.

It’s been a slow start to the current Premier League season for Man United, earning just one point from their opening two encounters.

There were some moments of great energy and attacking creativity from Amorim’s side in their draw with Fulham, despite several lapses of concentration occurring as the hosts scraped their way back into the match.

Following the game, United legend Louis Saha gave his take on United’s slow start to the season under Amorim, giving his honest opinion on the struggling manager.

Saha on Amorim

“There is the right communication, it is very honest,” Saha said of Amorim’s engagement with his players.

“He says what he sees, and I like the kind of clear vision that he’s got. He’s got a clear vision.”

“Yes, they are in a process. There are things that are not going to be understood by everybody, and there are mistakes that are going to be made, but I like this process.”

The former United striker also had a strong opinion on the team as a whole.

Assessing United’s potential

“You still have young players, especially in the forward positions”, Saha explained. “Last year, it was a bit of difficulty to manage that because you have to teach them, and at the same time, they have to show confidence. Now, I think, we saw there are links coming.”

Saha also gave his view on how United will develop from here and what their recipe for success will be.

How United can chase success

“There are elements where the position of the striker is going to be very decisive.”

“I think we will need to play in a way where the two playmakers are narrow; they can give a bit more creativity, but they need to really be together in all the moments of the game,” Saha explained.

“This is why I think they slow down the speed and get exposed,” Saha said, highlighting United’s inability to heed his advice as of yet.

“Teams are fit, they are committed as well, and they [United] need to really put them at the level where they’ll struggle physically, and this is not the case. That’s why he’s [Amorim] frustrated and he thinks that they can do better.”

“Yes, they scored a goal, but that’s not enough. Man United need to do more and to upset and score.”

Saha concluded by praising Amorim again, declaring: “I like what he is trying to do.”

It appears that the former United striker is confident in Amorim’s ability to lead United out of their slump. While the Portuguese manager has not had an easy start to life at Old Trafford, perhaps he has the long-term vision needed to turn the club around.

Still, only time will tell.
