Liverpool turn down chance to sign ‘gettable’ Manchester United and Chelsea target | OneFootball

Liverpool have turned down the chance to sign Brighton attacker Leandro Trossard after he was offered to them by his agent, according to reports.

The Belgium international has been in brilliant form for the Seagulls so far this season before the Premier League took a pause for the World Cup.

Trossard has scored seven goals and provided two assists for Brighton this campaign with Roberto de Zerbi’s side sitting in seventh position in the league table.

That form saw him called up to the World Cup, where he has played 44 minutes in two matches, and led to interest from numerous clubs around Europe.

There have been strong links, as you may expect, that he will join up with former Brighton boss Graham Potter at Chelsea with other rumours today that he wants to bring Brentford striker Ivan Toney to the club.

It’s unclear whether Liverpool are looking for another winger, despite a serious injury to Luis Diaz, with a number of good options in that area.

And CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs claims Liverpool are not interested in Trossard and reveals that Chelsea and Manchester United have also been offered the Brighton star.

“We’ll have to wait and see whether United decide to look a little bit closer to home and see whether there’s that shorter term and closer to home goalscorer that they might be able to attract,” Jacobs told Give Me Sport.

“We know, for example, that Trossard at Brighton is being put in the shop window by his agent.

“He’s been offered to Manchester United, he’s been offered to Liverpool and he’s been offered to Chelsea. Liverpool are not interested.

“Manchester United haven’t really bitten, but given the [Cristiano] Ronaldo situation, we have to wait and see if they consider a player like him, somebody gettable, somebody that is in good form and somebody that can just tide them over and continue the momentum that they’re building under Erik ten Hag between now and the summer, at which point they can then come in for a big name.”

Chelsea are undergoing big changes on the recruitment side of things but Jacobs insists that not all of their new team “will be in place” for the January transfer window.

Jacobs added on Twitter: “Chelsea feel their recruitment team is set for the January window. Not all new hires will be in place for it, though. Christopher Vivell incoming as technical director and Paul Winstanley has started with immediate effect. Joe Shields and Laurence Stewart will start later.

“As previously reported, Todd Boehly is comfortable in his current role. It’s been clear for some time that the club are in no rush to appoint a sporting director as a result.”
