Ruben Amorim is reportedly desperate to bring Viktor Gyokeres with him to Liverpool this summer if he is appointed as Jurgen Klopp’s successor, which could see Coventry City bag a sizeable windfall.

According to Teamtalk, the Sporting Clube de Lisbon coach is closing in on a move to Anfield, having been offered a three-year deal by the Premier League side.

This could have a serious knock-on effect at the CBS Arena, as any deal involving Gyokeres will see Coventry earn a percentage of the transfer fee.

The Swede spent two-and-a-half seasons with the Sky Blues before signing for Sporting last summer.

He contributed 41 goals and 15 assists from 110 league appearances in Mark Robins’ side before making the switch to Portugal (all stats from Fbref).

Liverpool are searching for a successor to Klopp following confirmation that the German is departing the Reds at the end of the campaign.

Amorim is thought to be the frontrunner for the position following Xabi Alonso’s decision to stay at Bayer Leverkusen.

Gyokeres has gone from strength to strength under the 39-year-old, scoring 22 goals in the Portuguese top flight this year.

This has attracted plenty of transfer interest, with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal previously linked with a move for the 25-year-old.

Liverpool could now join that race, with Amorim understood to be keen to reunite with the forward at Anfield.

It has been reported that Coventry will receive between 10 and 15 percent of any future fee for Gyokeres.

The striker has a release clause worth €100 (£85) million, which is expected to be the asking price set by Sporting if clubs come looking to sign him this summer.

This could net the Championship side up between £8.5 and 12.75 million if that fee is matched, which would be extremely lucrative.

The Sky Blues initially sold the player for a deal worth a reported €20 (£17.1) million last year, with Gyokeres entering the final year of his contract.

Coventry City's play-off push

Coventry struggled following the departure of Gyokeres, with star playmaker Gustavo Hamer also leaving for Sheffield United.

However, Robins turned around their poor early-season form and brought the team back into play-off contention.

The gap to the top six is now eight points with four games remaining, meaning it will take a lot for them to overcome Norwich City in sixth.

Coventry are also set to compete in the FA Cup semi-finals for only the second time in their history this Sunday, facing Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.

Gyokeres sale would be a huge boost for Coventry

It is increasingly likely Callum O’Hare will leave Coventry for nothing this summer, which will be frustrating for the Sky Blues, as he is worth an eight-figure sum.

So receiving a big sell-on fee for Gyokeres, a player who walked away from the club 12 months ago, would be a great way to make up for the loss made with O’Hare.

This would be a big boost to their summer plans, and provide funds for Robins to reinvest back into his first team squad.

This shows how smart of a deal the club negotiated for Gyokeres, as they received a large fee anyway for him last summer despite there only being one year left on his contract.

It seems the benefits of that agreement could be felt this summer as well and aid their 2024/25 promotion push.
