Liverpool reportedly decided against signing RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner this summer based on ‘financial reasons’.
Werner has been heavily linked with the Anfield club, after scoring 31 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions this term.
But despite talks with manager Jürgen Klopp, the 24-year-old looks set to join Chelsea who have expressed a willingness to meet his £49m release clause.
According to Sky Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool did not even start any official talks with RB Leipzig.
This follows on from a Mirror Football exclusive, who claimed last week that Liverpool value the 24-year-old at ‘less than €30m’ amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Werner is now expected to sign a five-year deal with Chelsea worth £200,000 per week.
