‘Chelsea’s gone now’ – Liverpool ready to perform against Manchester United says Beard | OneFootball

Liverpool manager Matt Beard says that his side have moved on from the emotions brought by their 4-3 victory over Chelsea at Prenton Park in midweek.

The Reds inflicted significant damage to Chelsea’s Barclays Women’s Super League title hopes on what was a famous night on Merseyside.

Liverpool face rivals Manchester United in their next match at Prenton Park on Sunday afternoon. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Liverpool boss Beard said that his side have moved on from the Chelsea victory and that they won’t be left in the emotions of that match.

“Chelsea’s gone now,” Beard said. “We’ve looked at Manchester United and had our first training session back.

“We don’t need any motivation for Liverpool v Manchester United, it’s like the Merseyside derby, it’s one of the first games that we would look for.

“The players will be absolutely fine. There’s not a lot at stake but we want to finish fourth because it’s a position that we can get. From our end, there will be no issues with motivation.”

Going on to discuss Manchester United, Beard again highlighted Liverpool’s desire to increase their chances of a fourth-place finish whilst identifying the difficulty of the contest.

He said “It’s not in our hands because of Manchester United’s goal difference but for us to be in that position with two games to go is great, it shows the real progress that we have made on the pitch this year.

“It’s a tough game. Manchester United are a good side and I think they’ve hit a little bit of form of late. They’ve been hard to beat and they’ve tweaked how they play a little bit which has been interesting to see.

“They’ve had a lot of injuries and turnaround in the summer, not just on the pitch but off the pitch, so I think Marc [Skinner] has done a good job this year.

“It’s a tough game. We know their strengths and weaknesses but we’ve just got to put in a performance like we did the other night then we give ourselves a great chance.”
