According to a report from Liverpool Echo, the Merseyside club are interested in signing Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen. The 19-year-old star has also garnered attention from several European giants, including the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are also keeping tabs on him.

Wirtz’s Campaign In Bundesliga So Far This Season

The German attacker is regarded as one of the biggest talents in Europe, and he has recently recovered from his ACL injury that he picked up earlier this season. He has managed to find the back of the net on two occasions and created six assists over thirteen appearances across all fronts so far in this campaign.

The Pulheim-born talent has done well to orchestrate the attack from the central areas, as he is averaging 1.6 key passes, 2.2 dribbles and 1.4 tackles per game in the Bundesliga. He has also been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 78% of his attempted passes in the German top flight (stats via whoscored).

Writz’s contract at the BayArena doesn’t expire before the summer of 2027, so the German club are reluctant to sell him. Leverkusen have stated that they wish to hold on to their rising star until 2024.

Should Klopp Bring Him To Liverpool?

Wirtz excels at generating a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on goal and is extremely calm when finishing in front of the opponent’s goal. The German playmaker has got the vision to find his teammates with outstanding passes to create brilliant plays down the middle. Furthermore, Wirtz is adept at holding on to the ball and has the pace and quickness to get past defenders from tight areas.

He would bring more competition into the attacking department at Anfield and would serve as an ideal understudy for Thiago Alcantara until he matures as a footballer. The 19-year-old has a lot of room to develop and has the potential to become one of the best attackers in Europe.

Wirtz is already good enough to serve as a sporadic member of Jurgen Klopp‘s match-day squad. If the Reds are willing to be patient with his progress, he could prove himself to be a future star for them in the Premier League. Wirtz is definitely a prospect to watch out for in the future and would be an excellent signing for the Merseyside club to pull off later this year.
