Leicester City sign Stephy Mavididi on five-year contract | OneFootball

Leicester City have unveiled Stephy Mavididi as their latest summer signing, with the Englishman signing a five-year contract.

The Foxes agreed a €6 million transfer fee with Montpellier last week to replace standout playmaker James Maddison, who joined Tottenham Hotspur last month.

While the 25-year-old is a slightly different type of player than Maddison, his ability to cover multiple positions alongside the frontline could make him a valuable asset.

Leicester fans should not hold high expectations as the Arsenal academy graduate bagged just four goals and two assists in 27 appearances across all competitions last term.

Mavididi started his career at the Emirates Stadium, but he moved to Juventus in 2018 after failing to make a single senior appearance for the Gunners.

However, his brief experience in Turin didn’t go according to plan, forcing him to seek a new home after two years and only one first-team outing for the record-time Serie A champions.

Despite showing occasional flashes of his potential at Montpellier, Mavididi fell short of a 100-appearance mark at the Stade de la Mosson, netting 21 goals in 98 matches.

After falling down the pecking order in France, the versatile forward will be keen to turn his fortunes around at Leicester as they brace themselves up for a first season in the Championship since 2013/14.

The Foxes couldn’t hold on to their Premier League status last term and have consequentially had to deal with several high-profile departures this summer.

In addition to Maddison, Maresca has lost Harvey Barnes to Newcastle United, while long-serving defender Caglar Soyuncu has joined Atletico Madrid.

Despite their exits, Maresca’s managerial tenure was off to a decent start as Leicester won their opening two pre-season friendlies against Northampton Town and Oud-Heverlee Leuven.

However, a 4-0 demolition at the hands of Liverpool at Kallang’s National Stadium on Sunday was the last thing they needed ahead of their Championship curtain-raiser against Coventry City.
