QPR are eyeing up a surprise move for Leicester City attacker Silko Thomas, Football League World has learned
QPR are lining up a surprise move for Leicester City winger Silko Thomas, sources have exclusively revealed to Football League World.
It's understood that QPR are looking to add Thomas to the squad at Julien Stephan's disposal, having bolstered their attacking options considerably throughout what has been an exciting summer transfer window for the West London side.
The Hoops turned heads by acquiring two of League One's standout forward players in the 2024/25 campaign in Richard Kone and Kwame Poku, who both joined from Wycombe Wanderers and Peterborough respectively after Stephan's side fought off considerable Championship interest to seal their signatures.
QPR have endured a slow start to the new Championship season, though, having played out a 1-1 draw with Preston North End at Loftus Road on the opening weekend before falling to a 2-1 defeat away to Watford last Saturday.
The R's are next in action at Frank Lampard's Coventry City this weekend, where they will be looking to chalk their first win of the season on the board.
As the opening two games have perhaps highlighted, QPR's business this summer is far from done and further additions are being eyed up before the deadline on September 1.
FLW can exclusively reveal that QPR are lining up a move for Leicester winger Thomas, who has emerged as a target either on loan or on a permanent basis.
Reports on Wednesday afternoon signalled that Thomas was the subject of interest from a number of unnamed Championship and League One clubs, and FLW now understands that QPR are one of the clubs keen to take the former Chelsea prospect out of the King Power Stadium.
Thomas came through the ranks at Chelsea before moving to Leicester in the summer of 2023.
The ex-England youth international is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Foxes and spent last season on loan in League One with Wigan Athletic, where he returned no goals and just three assists from 31 matches across all competitions before seeing his campaign prematurely curtailed by injury back in February.
21-year-old Thomas has failed to make a matchday squad at Leicester under ex-R's boss Marti Cifuentes, and finds himself behind the likes of Will Alves, Abdul Fatawu, Stephy Mavididi, Kasey McAteer and Jeremy Monga in the Spaniard's pecking order.
It's understood that QPR are exploring the possibility of acquiring Thomas on either a temporary or permanent basis, although it's difficult to see just how much sense the move would make if Stephan could only manage to get the wide-man in on loan.
QPR are blessed with a litany of exciting wide options. Karamoke Dembele and the aforementioned Poku, who is currently sidelined with injury, are both wingers with no shortage of quality, while long-serving playmaker Ilias Chair can also operate out wide if needed.
The R's can call upon utility player Harvey Vale, too, with the ex-Chelsea talent capable of playing anywhere down the left-hand side, and they still have Paul Smyth as well.
Signing Thomas permanently, which would give him the time to steadily develop and force his way into the side, could be a shrewd call, although it would be difficult to see the winger displacing the likes of Dembele, Poku and Vale this season.
