Spanish giants Sevilla have shortlisted Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca as a potential managerial appointment this summer.

According to Relevo, the La Liga side has narrowed down their search for a new head coach to three men.

Quique Sanchez Flores is currently at the helm, and has brought the club away from a potential relegation battle.

However, no decision has yet been made on whether the Spaniard will continue with the team beyond this season.

He was appointed in December with a contract until 2025, but the club may opt for a change this summer anyway.

Maresca has been mentioned as a potential target for the Sevilla manager’s position should they decide to make a change.

Former Real Madrid striker Raul, and current Osasuna boss Jagoba Arrasate are also being considered for the role.

Raul has previously been a coach at underage level for Real Madrid, while Arrasate has announced his departure from Osasuna at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Maresca has been with Leicester since last summer, having been appointed as manager following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The Italian previously worked as an assistant coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, as well as being the main man at Parma for 14 games in 2021.

The 44-year-old has earned a lot of praise for his work with the Championship side, guiding them to a battle for automatic promotion in his first year at the club.

The Foxes are targeting an immediate Premier League return, but still have four games left to determine their fate amid stiff competition from Ipswich Town, Leeds United and Southampton.

Maresca’s attractive style of play has also earned him a lot of plaudits, with the team playing fast, aggressive, possession football during his brief tenure.

It remains to be seen whether he can be convinced to make the switch to the Spanish outfit, but his four years there as a player may be able to sway him towards a move.

Given Maresca has a contract until 2026, a deal with Leicester will have to be negotiated in order for the coach to change clubs.

Leicester City's promotion challenge

The second division side currently sit second in the table, one point behind leaders Ipswich but with a game in hand.

Leeds are one point behind in third, with the Whites also having played a game more than Leicester.

Maresca’s side finishes the regular season with games against West Brom, Southampton, Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers.

Three wins from their final four games will secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

Sevilla move will be tempting for Enzo Maresca

Given Maresca’s history at Sevilla, this will surely be a very tempting move for the Italian.

If Leicester fail to gain promotion to the Premier League, then it will only make it more difficult to turn down an approach from his former club.

It would be a huge blow for the Foxes if Maresca did leave as he has proven himself as a very exciting, young coach, and convincing someone equally as talented to replace him will be tough with their own financial issues.

Promotion to the top flight could convince him to remain at the King Power in order to continue building up the team, but even that might not be enough due to his history with the Spanish side.
