Leeds United, Wolves and Southampton are all keen on a striker playing at Swiss side St Gallen, but they have ‘no chance’ of snapping him up via a €5.5m release clause.
Daniel Farke wants to boost his attacking options as he knows the value of goals in the Premier League, with question marks over whether Joel Piroe can do the business in the top flight.
German forward Lukas Nmecha was added earlier this month, but his injury record in recent seasons has been extremely concerning.
Wolves also want attacking reinforcements and recently lost Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, while Southampton want to get out of the Championship at the first attempt.
All three clubs are keen on St Gallen’s Willem Geubbels, according to German outlet Fussball Transfers, while 1. FC Koln, Union Berlin and Sheffield United also like him.
It has been suggested that a deal for Geubbels would be straightforward due to the presence of a €5.5m release clause in his contract.
However, that talk is false and though he did have a clause in his contract, higher than €5.5m, last summer, the clause is no longer valid.
As such, St Gallen will be in a position to dictate their own asking price for the 23-year-old striker.
There is no indication about just how much the Swiss Super League side will be looking for in order to let him go.
The frontman scored 17 goals and made three assists in 41 all competition games in the 2024-25 campaign.
St Gallen finished eighth in the Swiss Super League in the recent season, with a leaky defence costing them as they ended with a goal difference of minus one.
Geubbels is likely to be drawn towards the prospect of a move to England or Germany and now all eyes will be on whether any of his suitors make a firm approach in the coming weeks.
