Arsenal have announced the signing of Liverpool forward Olivia Smith in a deal which has shattered the transfer record in the women's game.
The Champions League holders are reportedly the first club to break the £1m mark with the deal to bring the Canada international to north London.
It eclipses the estimated £900,000 Chelsea paid earlier this year to sign defender Naomi Girma - the previous world record and the first time a player moved for $1m or more.
Smith, 20, was Liverpool's record signing last summer when she arrived from Sporting CP and enjoyed a successful debut campaign in the WSL, netting seven times in 20 appearances.
Despite the Reds initially rejecting several offers for a player who had multiple years left to run on her contract in Merseyside, the tantalising bid from Arsenal proved too much to resist.
She joins Chloe Kelly, Taylor Hinds and Anneke Borbe in making moves to the Gunners this summer ahead of their assault on defending their status as Europe's top dogs next season.
