Fresh from winning the Championship Player of the Season award at the EFL awards on Sunday night, Crysencio Summerville continues to attract interest from a variety of clubs.

A host of Premier League clubs have been linked with the Leeds United attacker this season, with The Sun reporting that Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle, West Ham are all keeping tabs on the 22-year-old, whilst Football Insider have reported that Aston Villa and Brighton are keen on the Leeds star.

Despite having nearly half the Premier League interested in his signature, Summerville has also attracted interest from foreign shores, and German champions Bayer Leverkusen are the latest side to be credited with an interest in signing the Dutch age-grade international.

With this in mind, Leeds will know they've got a battle on their hands to keep the ex-Feyenoord man at Elland Road this summer, and realistically will have to win promotion to the top-flight of English football if they've got any chance of keeping Summerville.

Gus Poyet on transfer interest in Crysencio Summerville

Having worked at Leeds United during the 2006/07 season where he was the club's assistant manager, former Uruguay international Gus Poyet is well-placed to discuss what the best decision is for Summerville this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, via 1337.games, Poyet said: “If Leeds get promotion, then he is playing Premier League football, and he should stay."

With just three games remaining of the Championship season, Leeds United are in 3rd place in the Championship table, and the race for automatic promotion looks set to go to the wire.

Leeds missed the chance to go top of the league after their 1-0 loss at home to Blackburn on Saturday, and will now have to rely on results to go their way if they're to go up automatically.

Poyet said, "Leeds wouldn’t sell such a top player for them if they go up as he will be pivotal to how they play.

“His pace can cause Premier League defenders loads of problems and can be a massive asset for Leeds.”

There's no doubt that this would be the case, but Leeds now need to ensure they don't slip up any further and make an immediate return to the Premier League.

Middlesbrough, QPR, and Southampton to come, it's set to go to the wire, and Daniel Farke's side need to pick up maximum points to put the pressure on Ipswich and Leicester City.

Crysencio Summerville's impressive 2023/24 campaign for Leeds United

Given the fact that Summerville won the 2023/24 Championship Player of the Season award, it should go without saying that he's been impressive this season.

Leeds' relegation to the Championship has certainly been a blessing in disguise for Summerville, and he's made the most of his opportunities in the second tier.

That makes him Leeds' top scorer this season and puts him fourth in the Championship scoring charts.

Summerville's performances have ensured that he'll likely be playing top-flight football next season, whether that's with Leeds United or elsewhere.

In a perfect scenario, Summerville will want to be playing Premier League football with Leeds next season. It's now up to Daniel Farke's side to ensure they get the job done and win promotion in their remaining three games.
