Crysencio Summerville has emerged as a potential summer transfer target for Aston Villa.
According to Football Insider, the Midlands outfit have set their sights on the Leeds United star.
It has been a standout season for the Dutchman, who earned the player of the year away from the EFL for his efforts in Daniel Farke’s side.
Summerville has a contract with Leeds until the summer of 2026, but will be subject to interest in the upcoming transfer window.
The 22-year-old has contributed 19 goals and nine assists from 41 appearances in the Championship so far this season, with the Whites still in the mix for automatic promotion to the Premier League (all stats from Fbref).
Carlton Palmer has predicted that Summerville will remain at Leeds United beyond this summer, but only if the club earns promotion to the Premier League.
He has warned that failure to return to the top flight would open the door for the forward’s exit from Elland Road.
“It’s reported that Aston Villa are one of the Premier League clubs looking at Crysencio Summerville, the talented Leeds United winger,” Palmer told Football League World.
“There’s also several enquiries from clubs in Europe, they’ve all been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old talented winger.
“Leeds United paid £1.3 million for the player, who has been very instrumental for Leeds United, sat in second place at the moment, looking to get automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
“He’s been outstanding, so the problem is now Unai Emery will want to strengthen his Villa squad.
“I know he’s been looking at Dewsbury-Hall at Leicester, but Dewsbury-Hall is going to cost you about £40 million, whereas I think you could get Summerville out of there for about £25m to 30 million, which would be a huge mark up for Leeds United.
“But, should Leeds United get promotion to the Premier League, they’ve got a very, very good chance of going up to the Premier League, either automatically or via the play-offs.
“It’s going to be tight, everybody knows it’s going to be tight, it’s going to go down to the wire, some teams in the Championship have got three games left, some have two.
“Leeds play [Friday] against QPR and it’s a massive game for Leeds United.
“Should Leeds United win that would put them on 93 points with one game to play, but should Ipswich win their last three games that’s it, there’s nothing Leeds can do, all Leeds can do is finish off winning their last two games.
“So, should Leeds not get promoted to the Premier League then it’s almost certain [Summerville] will be sold.
“Should they get to the Premier League, then he’s playing regular football at the top flight, so I don’t think Leeds would sell him.
“I think the only way Leeds would sell him is if they don’t get promotion to the Premier League.”
Summerville joined Leeds in the summer of 2020 from Feyenoord, but has really only cemented himself as a key part of the squad this year.
While he made 34 appearances in the Premier League prior to this campaign, he has become undroppable in Farke’s team.
Leeds have just two games left to secure a top two place in the Championship, otherwise they will have to handle the play-offs instead.
Their final games come against QPR and Middlesbrough.
Summerville didn’t really make much of an impact in the Premier League prior to Leeds’ relegation because he wasn’t quite ready to compete at that level.
But he has improved massively under Farke and is now ready to go back up to the English top flight.
Villa could be a tempting move even if Leeds do go up as they will be competing in Europe next season, potentially even in the Champions League.
So Leeds should be looking to tie him down to a new deal with a big wage increase if they gain promotion, as that may convince him to remain at Elland Road long-term.
