Lazio Midfielder Reportedly Decides to Activate Contract Renewal Clause

Lazio midfielder Daichi Kamada has reportedly opted to trigger the renewal clause inserted in his contract.

The Italian capital club signed the 27-year-old last summer on a free transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt. However, the two parties’ agreement included an unusual stipulation. The Japan international only signed a one-year contract, but his deal included a clause that allows him to renew his stay until June 2027; if Kamada wants to exercise this option, he must do so before it expires on May 30th.

But while many feared that the central midfielder could leave the club for free, Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) claims he has now decided to stay by activating the clause. However, the source remains uncertain if the contract will be extended for three years as stated in the clause, or for just one year based on the player’s request.

The former Frankfurt midfielder started his experience at Formello on a relatively slow note, failing to lock himself a regular starting spot in Maurizio Sarri’s lineup. Nevertheless, Kamada has become one of the first names on the starting sheet since the appointment of Igor Tudor in March.

The Japanese midfielder has thus far contributed with a single goal and two assists in 36 appearances across all competitions this season.
