FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta made a surprise appearance at the Koeman Cup golf tournament, organised by former manager Ronald Koeman.

Not only did Laporta attend the event, but he also joined the Dutch national team manager in front of the media, where both men staged their reconciliation and expressed their shared commitment to the club.

Burying the hatchet

Laporta and Koeman had a falling out back in 2021 when the Dutchman was sacked as manager months into the former’s tenure as president.

The former Barcelona defender and club legend has not shied away from pointing out that he felt he was treated unfairly. But after years, the pair buried the hatchet today publicly.

“The most important thing is Barça, I believe that sometimes in life there are more important things than a conflict between two people,” said Koeman.

Joining the former manager, Laporta added: “There is affection because Ronald, apart from being a Barça legend, is a great person and this unites us. There are many feelings that we share and we thought that it didn’t make sense what was happening.”

Koeman and Laporta made it very clear that it made no sense to be estranged, also with Barça as the link between them.

“You have always asked for a long time if we had a coffee together, yes. The most important thing is Barça. Sometimes in life, it is more important than a conflict between two people, for the good of Barça, myself and the president,” said the club legend.

Laporta highlighted ‘having taken the step’ and when asked who was the first to take it, he replied that ‘both of us’ and thanks ‘to our mutual friends’.

The Barcelona president jokingly reiterated that what they had had ‘wasn’t a coffee, it was a carajillo, which is more stimulating’.
