A headline-grabbing accusation has this week been directed at none other than La Liga president Javier Tebas.

This comes amid claims that the Spanish patron played a direct role in the developments which ultimately culminated in Athletic Club star Nico Williams rejecting a move to Barcelona.

Wide-man Nico of course shocked the masses last week, in penning a new long-term contract in Bilbao.

As much came completely out of the blue, after the 22-year-old had been locked in ongoing transfer negotiations with the aforementioned Barcelona.

And as alluded to above, on Tuesday, La Liga’s most high-profile figure has been saddled with the responsibility for the Blaugrana’s pursuit coming up short.

The accusation comes by way of Miguel Galán, president of the National Center of Football Coaches (CENAFE).

In a post on his official social media accounts, relaid by Diario Sport, Galán turned heads in claiming that Javier Tebas leaked confidential information regarding Barcelona’s financial situation during a meeting with Athletic Club’s board:

‘Athletic were shown the information of the interim financial statements of FC Barcelona, allowing them to verify in situ that the profit and loss account did not reflect any amount related to the corporate operation of sale of the VIP seats. In addition, the president of LaLiga explicitly reported on the reduction of FC Barcelona’s LCPD and that it did not have a balance or registration capacity, in compliance with financial fair play. Finally, he also presented the limited review report signed by Crowe Auditores España SL.

‘According to the confidential information that was revealed to Athletic Club de Bilbao, a situation arose in which Nico Williams requested an additional guarantee in the form of a release clause. FC Barcelona, acting with good judgment, was not willing to accept this condition.

‘The non-signing of Nico Williams is attributed exclusively to the mistrust generated by the president of LaLiga towards the player’s agent, as well as towards the player himself and his family.

‘After the meeting between the president of LaLiga and the president of Athletic Club de Bilbao, confidential information of an economic nature of FC Barcelona was provided to Nico Williams, which was oversized in order to generate concern in the player’s family and try to convince them to include a release clause that lacked any logic.’
