A leading member of the board at La Liga champions Barcelona had his sights on an alternative target throughout the saga linking Nico Williams with a move to Catalunya.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Deco as the individual in question.
Deco is of course one of a whole host of individuals behind the scenes at Barcelona who are currently licking their wounds.
This comes after the Blaugrana were left bamboozled by long-time transfer target Nico Williams of Athletic Club.
Just weeks on from agreeing to the terms of a contract with Hansi Flick’s squad, the 22-year-old out of the blue committed to a new long-term deal in Bilbao.
As much left Barcelona reeling, forced to seek out alternative arrangements for next season.
As alluded to above, though, one member of the Camp Nou boardroom who will not find it too difficult to move past Nico’s snub is the aforementioned Deco.
This comes with the Portuguese having always had a preferred target to the gifted winger in mind, in Luis Díaz.
As per a report from Sport:
‘Luis Díaz is the player who has been Deco’s favorite to reinforce the left wing of the Barça attack since last season. Díaz was first on Deco’s list and, after ceasing to be so for three weeks, he is again.’
