Kristoffer Ajer linked with blockbuster Celtic return

Celtic have grown accustomed to bringing back familiar names to the club in recent times. Brendan Rodgers made his return to Parkhead for a second stint as manager in the summer of 2023. Then this January, Jota found his way back to Glasgow after struggling at Al-Ittihad and Rennes. Kieran Tierney will be arriving back home in the summer with a pre-contract agreement already in place with the Arsenal left-back.

Now, it looks like another player is being linked with a return to Celtic Park. That is none other than Kristoffer Ajer of Brentford.

Ajer left Celtic in the summer of 2021 to join Brentford. And he has a long-term contract with the Premier League club.

But despite that, it looks like Brendan Rodgers has an eye on a reunion with Ajer at Parkhead. An article from Eddie Murray on The Celtic Star goes on to read:

"I’m assured that Brendan has been in the ear of one, Kristoffer Ajer recently, and not just once."

Ajer currently is a consistent starter for Brentford in the Premier League. And The Bees are in no danger of being relegated either as they sit at 11th in the table.

So, it is hard to imagine why Ajer would want to leave Brentford at this point in his career. It might feel like the Norwegian has been around for a while but he is still just 26 years of age. His contract with Brentford is believed to run until the summer of 2028.

Then again, never say never in football. Not many would have expected Tierney to return to Celtic so soon and that is exactly what will happen in the summer.

If Celtic are able to sign Ajer, it would have to be considered a major coup for the club. He has already proven himself at Parkhead and should be a much better player now, having spent the last several years playing Premier League football.
