New Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany has been speaking to the media ahead of the start of pre-season.

The former Belgium international made the switch to Bundesliga after spending two seasons at Burnley, where he achieved promotion to the Premier League.

It appears like Kompany has been hard at work already.

"It was nice to have a little bit of time off, but to be honest I've been very active behind the scenes," the 38-year-old told reporters. "I'm looking forward to starting the season with this team, with this club and making sure that everything is perfect and well into pre-season.

With some players due for a delayed return thanks to their participation in EURO 2024, Kompany also revealed what the situation is at Bayern on day one of his official duties.

"Some players were here already on Friday. It was still a holiday, but the players themselves decided to come back earlier, which is of course nice," Kompany continued. "The staff were also there, which is nice as well.

"It was more about observation, getting a feeling for the guys and speaking to them. But today is day one, today things really get started.

"It's important to feel right away that a new season is starting and to immediately have the right mentality. Of course it's still preparation, you're not fully fit yet, you still have things to learn.

"But mentally, you have to be fit from the start. The focus should be on getting back on top.

"The squad must have this 100% intensity and this focus to be successful again."

Bayern kick off their Bundesliga campaign away at Wolfsburg on 24th August.
