FC Bayern joins the German football community in mourning the death of Christoph Daum, who has passed away at the age of 70 after a long illness. Daum enjoyed his greatest success as a coach in 1992 when he led VfB Stuttgart to the Bundesliga title. He also secured runners-up finishes twice for Köln and three times for Bayer Leverkusen. He won further titles with Turkish clubs Besiktas and Fenerbahce as well as Austria Vienna. Daum also served as Romania national team coach and worked at Club Brugge in Belgium and Bursapor in Turkey. He announced he had been diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2022.

Herbert Hainer, FC Bayern president: “Like the entire football community, FC Bayern stands in mourning alongside Christoph Daum's family, relatives and friends. Christoph Daum enriched German football for decades. His credo was always: ‘It doesn't matter how often you fall down, but how often you get up’. German football will always honour the memory of Christoph Daum.”

Uli Hoeneß, FC Bayern honorary president: “Throughout his life, Christoph Daum never avoided a dispute, but we both made our peace a long time ago, and the news of his death saddens me greatly. He fought bravely against his illness and encouraged many fellow sufferers with his open approach to the subject. He wasn't able to win his final battle in the end, but German football will remember him as a person who always gave his all - for his clubs, his teams and far beyond.”
