The outcome of the La Liga meeting between Getafe and Rayo Vallecano has given rise to a head-turning statistic.

The two sides locked horns at the Estadio Coliseum on Saturday night, hoping to keep alive their respective unbeaten starts to the campaign.

When all was said and done, they managed precisely that, courtesy of a 0-0 draw.

Safe to say, however, that neither side are likely to be overly satisfied with how as much came about.

Getafe, for their part, racked up 12 shots over the course of the 90 minutes, with Rayo having added three of their own.

Incredibly, however, not a single one managed to find the target, in a frankly remarkable feat of profligacy.

And as much, as alluded to above, has seen the two sides etch their names into the record books of Spanish football, in altogether unwanted fashion.

As per statisticians Opta:

‘Rayo Vallecano is the first LaLiga match since at least the 2003/04 season (when such records began) without a single shot on target.’
