Norwich City winger Christian Tzolis is reportedly set to return to the club from his loan spell at FC Twente.

Dutch journalist Leon ten Voorde, who covers Twente for regional newspaper TC Tubantia, has claimed via his Twitter account that the 20-year-old “will most likely return” to the Canaries after a disappointing spell with the Eredivisie side.

Tzolis has made 15 appearances for Twente, finding the net on three occasions. He joined them from Norwich last summer after failing to live up to his £8.8million price tag, starting just three league games in his first season with the Canaries.

It seems the hierarchy see something in Tzolis, having left the door open for a return to Norfolk, with no permanent option included in the deal with Twente.

This comes after David Wagner admitted that there was no recall clause in the loan deal from a Norwich perspective, telling media in a recent press conference: “He trained with us once because he was in the building when I arrived but, unfortunately, there is no clause in the contract that we can call him back (in January).

“This means he will stay at Twente until the end of the season and hopefully he gets a lot of minutes and good games under his belt.”

Whilst a recall might not be in place, it seems Twente are keen to terminate his loan and allow the winger a chance to return to his parent club.

Norwich are seemingly light of options in wide areas, having just sold Todd Cantwell to Rangers with Tzolis potentially filling that gap should he return.

The Verdict

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Tzolis return to Norwich and get a chance if Twente opt to terminate his loan.

He’s clearly a player with plenty of potentials, and with age on his side, he has room to develop. Having him return to the team will ensure the club doesn’t have to dip into the transfer market.

That will no doubt save them some money whilst giving David Wagner additional attacking options.
