The Clarets are the latest to join the race for the US international

Josh Sargent’s name continues to dominate the summer transfer headlines, with the Norwich City striker now drawing serious interest from England, Germany, and Italy.

Reports in Germany suggest Wolfsburg are also exploring a potential move to bring the American back to the Bundesliga.

Sargent previously spent two years at Werder Bremen before making the switch to Carrow Road in 2021 - and Wolfsburg are reportedly impressed by the strides he’s made in English football.

Serie A sides AS Roma and Udinese have also shown interest, but the Canaries’ €25 million valuation appears to have cooled the latter's pursuit.

Football League World has also exclusively revealed that Burnley are among the clubs to be linked with the 25-year-old.

With Sargent under contract until 2028 and boasting 48 goals in 133 appearances for Norwich, it’s no surprise the club are playing hardball.

But as competition for his signature intensifies, the newly promoted Burnley may look to steal a march on their European rivals.

Why Josh Sargent ticks all the boxes for Burnley’s front line

In light of the Clarets’ interest in Sargent, Football League World spoke exclusively with Lee Hendrie to get his thoughts on if the American international would be tempted by a move to Turf Moor.

“Josh Sargent obviously linked with Burnley, I think yes - another player who’s proved his weight in gold,” Hendrie told FLW.

“Forwards like him are hard to come by, particularly ones who are consistent, and he has got that consistency and that level.

“Not just in front of goal but his build up, his approach play, I think he could be a real, real good fit for Burnley.

“Especially the way they play in the wide areas, they put delivery into the box, and I think he gives a little bit of everything.

“He’s got the sharpness, he plays on the shoulder, so I think he’d be a great signing for Burnley.”

Norwich must weigh up risk of losing star man to Premier League and beyond

Losing a striker of Sargent’s calibre would be a significant setback for Norwich, particularly as they look to mount a promotion push under new head coach Liam Manning.

The Canaries have moved quickly in the market this summer, making five new signings and investing heavily to reshape the squad - but Sargent remains their most proven source of goals.

The growing interest from the Premier League and abroad suggests the striker’s future may not be in their hands for much longer.

Burnley offer the lure of top-flight football, Wolfsburg could present a return to familiar surroundings in the Bundesliga, and Roma would provide a high-profile stage in Serie A.

Whether or not a formal bid materialises, Norwich may soon need to plan for life without Sargent.

With just over a month until the new season kicks off, the Canaries will be hoping speculation doesn’t derail their preparations.
