Keeping up the tempo

Article image:Keeping up the tempo

we have made a great start to the champions group. taking our foot off the pedal now could prove fatal though. we have to keep going until we secure the title.

Sturm, Rapid and LASK are names that may ring a little differently to WSG Tirol. The Tyroleans making the cut when the Austrian Bundesliga was recently split in two was possibly the biggest success in the club's history. WSG are a team playing without the burden of pressure or expectation, and anything they get in the Champions Group will be seen as a bonus. They are putting pressure on LASK, and are just three points behind them. They are here to try to upset the party. That's the way they are sure to approach our meeting on Wednesday.

WSG have been bravely playing their own style of football against supposedly stronger opponents. They are all about balance and strong positional play. Their build-up play is well rehearsed and their attacks silky. In Nikolai Baden Frederiksen, who is on loan from Juventus, they have a fox in the box who has scored 12 times this season. Trying to keep him quiet could be the key. That we have conceded just once in our last four matches gives us every hope of keeping a clean sheet.

We have faced the Tyroleans just four times so far in the Austrian Bundesliga. That's no surprise, as they only earned promotion the season before last. We have won all of the encounters, mostly by a clear margin. In total we have scored a whopping 19 goals against them. The omens are good for notching the next record in the Tipico Bundesliga. So far we have won 20 of 25 matches this season. No team has previously won 21 of their first 26 games since three points for a win was introduced to Austria.

Jesse Marsch is set to change his starting line-up for the first time in five matches. He guaranteed at the press conference that the in-form Karim Adeyemi will be selected. You can be among the first to find out who else starts on our Mobile App. Live updates from the match will be posted on our our English club Twitter channel from 18:20 CET.

injury news

Albert Vallci is out with a torn achilles. Max Wöber suffered a hip injury against LASK and his return depends on how that progresses.

Jesse Marsch on …

… the situation ahead of the match v WSG Tirol:

I think they thoroughly deserve to be in the champions round. Their coach has done really well with his team. They played really strong and courageous football against us in the regular season, and they could definitely surprise us. We need to prepared for that and go into this match with the right motivation. If we don't deliver a top performance, it will be tough.

Karim Adeyemi on …

… Wednesday's opponents:

We've played against them before, and we know what they can do. They will definitely play freely on Wednesday as they have nothing to lose.

… his run in recent matches:

It feels great for me, of course, and I am really pleased with my goals and assists. I'd be happy for it to continue like that. As a team we want to try everything to get the next win against Tirol. I hope that I can play my part in that too.
