There is no denying that there has been a Red Bull flavour at AS Monaco in recent times. From now-former sporting director Paul Mitchell, through to new sporting director Thiago Scuro, manager Adi Hütter and even recent recruits such as Takumi Minamino, Philipp Köhn and Mohamed Camara.
“It’s not because we’ve worked for Red Bull that we are going to embrace its philosophy afterwards,” Scuro, who replaced Mitchell last summer, told L’Équipe.
Whilst Scuro denies the Red Bull-Monaco link, pointing to the continuity in the project at the club in recent years, which precedes and transcends the personnel involved, L’Équipe report that Monaco are interested in two players currently playing within the Red Bull system.
The two players in question are Lucas Gourna-Douath (20) and Karim Konaté (20). Both currently play their club football at RB Salzburg in Austria. The former, who has played for the France U21s, could be viewed as a potential replacement for Youssouf Fofana, who may leave the club this season, whilst Konaté, an Ivorian international could add depth up-front. Both names have been discussed at Monaco in recent weeks, according to L’Équipe.
