Real Madrid maintained their unbeaten start to the 2022/23 La Liga season on Saturday evening.

The Spanish champions welcomed Sevilla to the Santiago Bernabeu and emerged with a resounding 3-1 win.

Luka Modric opened the scoring early on thanks to a superb assist from Vinicius Junior, although the visitors managed to find an equaliser through Erik Lamela in the 54th minute.

But that strike from the former Tottenham Hotspur man only served to spark Real Madrid into life.

Lucas Vazquez made it 2-1 shortly after, before Federico Valverde continued his stunning run of form by scoring yet another screamer.

It was another night to cherish for Madridistas, as they look to retain their La Liga crown.

To make the evening even more memorable, team talisman Benzema was presented with his Ballon d'Or award on the hallowed Bernabeu turf.

The French striker won the accolade for the very first time on Monday after an incredible 2021/22 season, where his goals and assists helped Real Madrid win a historic La Liga and Champions League double.

Benzema was unavailable for the match against Sevilla due to a minor injury, but still walked onto the pitch and collected his award.

And footage of the 34-year-old being handed the trophy by Zinedine Zidane and Modric, two former winners, really was the vibe of all footballing vibes.

Benzema still refuses to compare himself to other Real Madrid legends

Despite winning the Ballon d'Or at the age of 34, the oldest player to win the award since Sir Stanley Matthews in 1956, Benzema is still refusing to compare himself to players like Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I am not above Zizou and Ronaldo, we are different," the supremely-gifted striker said, per The Mirror.

"They are role models and I cannot do what they did on the pitch, but they help me to try to do it. I will never be at the level of either of them. They have won the Ballon d'Or and I just did it, but it's difficult to reach their level."

Zidane won the Ballon d'Or just once in 1998 following France's maiden World Cup win, while Ronaldo has famously won the prestigious accolade five times.
