Douglas Luiz did not report for Juventus’ first day of pre-season training at Continassa, despite all players being expected back one month before their Serie A opener against Parma. His absence was described as “unjustified,” signalling growing friction between club and player.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, “the Brazilian has chosen the path of rupture.” With his future in Turin hanging by a thread, Juventus are now expected to offload him before the end of August. The club, keen to avoid a financial loss, are seeking a fee of around €40 million.
Interest in the midfielder has emerged from West Ham and Everton in recent weeks, though no deal has yet been reached. Juventus are assessing their next steps but a departure now feels increasingly inevitable.
From a West Ham or Everton perspective, this feels like a rare window of opportunity. Douglas Luiz, an established international with Premier League experience, is suddenly a feasible target. His reported €40 million valuation is not cheap, but for clubs seeking to inject proven quality into midfield, this is a situation worth acting on swiftly.
At West Ham, Luiz would bring balance and ball progression, something they have missed since Declan Rice departed. His energy, composure and defensive acumen fit neatly into a side aiming for consistency.

For Everton, the appeal is just as strong. With David Moyes focusing on rebuilding from a more disciplined base, Luiz could offer the stability and leadership lacking in recent seasons. His ability to cover ground and recycle possession intelligently would make him an asset in a team fighting to climb the table.

Both clubs should view Juventus’ current impasse with urgency. Luiz not turning up for training suggests a player ready to move on. With Liverpool lurking and Juventus unwilling to lower the price, now is the time for West Ham or Everton to act decisively.
