Barcelona have been handed a huge transfer boost in the pursuit of Joshua Kimmich as Bayern Munich is willing to move to Camp Nou, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan giants are looking to make amends in the transfer market after missing out on Lionel Messi, who chose Inter Miami as his next destination.
Ilkay Gundogan is seen as a marquee signing, with the Catalan outfit reportedly on the verge of sealing the Manchester City star’s services.
The Blaugarana have struck gold with the German midfielder’s free transfer, who is currently just one win away from completing a treble with the Cityzens this season.
Barca are working to find a replacement for Sergio Busquets, who has bid farewell to his boyhood club.
Although names like Ruben Neves and Sofyan Amrabat have been put on the table, Xavi doesn’t want to compromise on quality and has identified Kimmich as the ideal target.
Contrary to the previous reports of Kimmich discussing a renewal with Bayern, the 28-year-old is reportedly determined to join the Blaugrana.
The German international has grown into one of the world’s best midfielders over the last few years, contributing significantly to Bayern’s success on multiple fronts.
With a contract running until 2025, Barca may require a sizable fee to secure Kimmich’s services, and the Catalan hierarchy is ready to back Xavi to get his desired targets.
Bayern are not enthused by the idea of selling their best player, but Kimmich is reportedly willing to take steps to leave Allianz Arena as Robert Lewandowski did last summer.
Barca have also been given the green light for their feasibility plan by La Liga so they wouldn’t have complications on signing Kimmich.
Adding Gundogan and Kimmich to a midfield containing Gavi, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Franck Kessie would make Barcelona one of the fiercest sides in Europe.
However, they must also try to bring in a right-back and a forward to build on their La Liga triumph.
