After a draw away at Ipswich Town at the weekend, Sheffield Wednesday got back to winning ways in front of their home crowd last night.

Morecambe were the visitors to Hillsborough, but it wasn’t long before they found themselves behind, with Owls skipper Barry Bannan putting his side 1-0 within the opening 60 seconds of the match.

Wednesday would go on to dominate the ball as the half progressed, adding a second goal in the 22nd minute, this time via Josh Windass.

Windass, too, went on to grab the third and final goal for Wednesday on the day, ensuring Darren Moore his side a comfortable 3-0 victory and all three crucial points.

Active on social media after the match, Windass shared his delight at contributing with his goals, and praised a key trait shown by his teammates on the night.

On Instagram after the match last night, Windass wrote: “Happy to contribute, good mentality tonight after a tough few games. “

“20 G/A and striving for more 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻 ⚽️.”

As Windass pointed out in his post, his two goals last night takes his goal and assist tally combined to 20 per the season, as backed up by the BBC Sport.

This makes him both the club’s top scorer with thirteen goals, but also the club’s top assist maker with seven.

Sheffield Wednesday now sit 2nd in League One, two points behind league leaders Plymouth Argyle.

Darren Moore is the current manager?

The Verdict

What a season Josh Windass is having.

He really is showing what the Owls were missing last campaign when he was out injured.

Indeed, to be both top scorer and top assister is impressive stuff and if he can keep it up, Wednesday surely have a great shot at automatic promotion.

Windass was right to highlight their mentality, too.

Going from such a high stakes match against Ipswich at the weekend into a lesser stakes match just a few days later but still going and doing a thoroughly professional job deserves credit.
