Lee Hendrie isn't surprised clubs such as Norwich City are sniffing around Josh Windass.
Former Aston Villa midfielder and Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie is feeling unsurprised that clubs such as Norwich City are chasing the signature of Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass.
The 31-year-old has been a stalwart at Hillsborough since his arrival in 2020, and enjoyed his best campaign to date with the Owls last season, netting 13 goals and chipping in with five assists in 44 Championship games.
However, the unfortunate situation that has befallen Sheffield Wednesday thanks to the neglectful and irresponsible ownership of Dejphon Chansiri means the fan favourite could leave the club this summer.
The forward reportedly informed the club that he wants to leave due to persistent late wage payments, which has sparked interest from across the Championship, and in Scotland.
Several clubs including Norwich are interested in signing the want-away attacker this summer, according to the Sheffield Star, as Wednesday face a battle to retain their star man.
Following the emergence of the latest reports regarding the interest in Windass, Football League World spoke exclusively to former Aston Villa star turned Sky Sports pundit Hendrie, asking him for his thoughts on whether this would be a good signing for the Canaries.
He told us: "[It's] no surprise that clubs are looking and sniffing around him because of his potential, and I've said his goals and his creativity threat - he brings that.
"There's no surprise that the top clubs in the Championship are looking to take him, and obviously with the situation Sheffield Wednesday are in at the moment, this is quite worrying.
"Players are leaving the football club, and we're not too far away from the season starting.
"It would be a great signing for Norwich City, as it would be for Middlesbrough, because I just think he's got that hunger and desire to fit into most sides in the Championship," Hendrie concluded.
As Hendrie stated, it's not surprising that so many clubs from the Championship are keen on signing Windass, who enjoyed a stellar campaign last season at Hillsborough.
With the unfolding situation at the Yorkshire-based club, the best they can do is hope to hold on to as many of their current players as possible, after being placed under a transfer embargo, which prevents them from signing anything other than free agents until January 2027.
Windass is a key figure for the Owls, and would be an enormous loss for the club should he leave this summer. He was linked with a shock move to Brazilian giants Santos in January, but that move never materialised.
Now, the forward's options aren't limited just to Brazil, with clubs such as Norwich, Wrexham, Derby County, and Coventry City all interested in bringing him in, leaving the 31-year-old with plenty of routes out of the Steel City.
