Wednesday's preparations for the 2025/26 campaign have got underway today (Thursday, 26th June) at Middlewood Road. Despite being out of contract, and having not officially accepted the club's new offer to him, Barry Bannan is in attendance for the start of summer training.

It's looking likely to be a season full of tumult and uncertainty, especially since players, should they not receive their June wages on time on Monday, will be able to hand notices to terminate their contracts to the club, but there's no harm in trying to get those that will be around ready.

Josh Windass quiets any Sheffield Wednesday future doubts

Windass, Wednesday's star attacker from last season, had an uncertain future with the club at one point. His contract was heading towards its final months when the Owls triggered an automatic one-year extension to his deal.

His father, Dean Windass, had hinted that the 31-year-old was going to leave the club this summer, and he still may as there is reported interest in him from Spanish side Valencia.

The younger Windass has, though, confirmed that he will be back at Middlewood to get ready for the upcoming season. In a cheeky post on Instagram, which referenced his lobbed goal against Blackburn Rovers two seasons ago, he said: "Not posted in a while, looking forward to getting back training. Next season goalies, please stay on your line."

Also reported to be at Middlewood today are Dominic Iorfa, Di’Shon Bernard, Max Lowe and Sean Fusire. Meanwhile, Wednesday are actively working with their manager to broker a deal that would see Rohl finally leave the club after months of pushing for an exit, as per The Star.

A heavy compensation fee that would currently be owed to the Owls should he leave has prevented him from potentially making a number of moves to teams in this country and in Germany. He is not expected to be around for pre-season.

There is also uncertainty around the club's facilities being ready for the players coming back, plus the futures of Rohl's backroom staff, according to Mike McGrath. Their contracts are up this month.

Josh Windass should consider all his options this summer

Given all the chaos that surrounds him, it wouldn't be a surprise if Windass leaned towards the option of moving away from Hillsborough in search of a new opportunity.

As a 31-year-old, he doesn't have an abundance of years left ahead of him in his footballing career. He won't get the most out of his remaining time if he stays with Wednesday, who look like they are heading nowhere but downwards at the moment.
