The Sheffield Star have reported that the American is considering an approach to current Owls chairman Dejphon Chansiri.

Textor, 59, is believed to be interested in an immediate return to English football ownership, following the sale of his stake in Crystal Palace for a reported £190 million.

Textor, who made his money in the technology industry, is an experienced football club owner and head of the Eagle Football Group, consisting of Botafogo, Daring Brussels - formerly RWD Molenbeek - and Olympique Lyonnaise.

Up until this week, he was also a 44.9% stakeholder in Crystal Palace, but signed a £190 million deal with New York Jets owner Woody Johnson to boost the Eagles’ chances of competing in the Europa League next season.

The South London side had been in quarrel with UEFA regarding their participation in the competition, as a result of Textor’s European multi club ownership.

His departure follows a bold plan from the American to launch a complete takeover of Palace, revealed by The Guardian just last month.

The businessman also failed in his bid to buy Everton in 2024, and has held talks with Watford owner Gino Pozzo regarding investment at Vicarage Road.

Textor’s interest in the Owls follows a recommendation from former Palace owner Simon Jordan, although it has been reported by The Star that Wednesday are one of several clubs of interest.

Textor’s reported interest comes at a time of deep instability at Hillsborough.

With key players still unpaid for May and a critical June 30 deadline looming, the Owls face the very real threat of contract terminations under FIFA rules - potentially losing senior figures like Barry Bannan and Callum Paterson for nothing.

A three-window paid transfer ban and strict wage cap have further crippled Wednesday’s recruitment capabilities, leaving the squad in limbo as pre-season approaches.

Meanwhile, takeover talks are intensifying. Florida-based Wednesdayite Adam Shaw says his consortium is now in “constructive open dialogue” with Chansiri’s legal representatives, while former chairman Milan Mandaric is flying to London in an attempt to broker a rescue deal.

In this context, Textor’s potential involvement adds yet another layer to a complex and increasingly volatile situation.

Whether he emerges as a serious contender - or simply the latest name in a long list of would-be buyers - remains to be seen, but with time ticking and crisis deepening, clarity and change cannot come soon enough for Sheffield Wednesday.
