Barcelona’s summer arrival, Joan Garcia, has shared his thoughts on life at the club, the team’s defensive chemistry, and expectations for the season in an in-depth chat with Mundo Deportivo.

After featuring in the pre-season tour of Asia and the Joan Gamper Trophy clash against Como, the young goalkeeper has had an early taste of what it means to wear the Barça shirt.

So when asked about who leads Barcelona’s defence, Garcia was quick to highlight teamwork. “I think that in this way of playing, everyone has to be in sync.

“No matter how much one player is in charge, if someone on the other side makes a mistake, it doesn’t work. I think there’s a very good connection between everyone.

“Perhaps the more experienced players, like Ronald (Araujo) or Andreas (Christensen), are the ones who set the pace, but I think it’s the younger players, both Pau (Cubarsi), who seems like a veteran, and (Alejandro) Balde.

“They all have a very clear idea of what to do, and I think they do it very well.”

Thoughts on Ter Stegen

Garcia also spoke about his meeting with Marc-Andre ter Stegen. “Well, the dressing room has no problem. He’s with us, he’s the captain.

“I hope the issues between him and the club are resolved, and it seems they are. If they are resolved, it will be better for everyone.”

When asked about Ter Stegen’s stance on his medical report, Garcia replied, “Well, I think there are things there that we don’t control or that we don’t know about; ultimately, we don’t know the full context.

“Therefore, the important thing is that it’s resolved and that they can reach a successful conclusion.”

On Lamine Yamal

The Barcelona summer signing was also asked about young sensation Lamine Yamal now that he trains with the rising star on a daily basis.

“Yes, it’s true [that he is unstoppable]. He seems very good in games, but in training, he does well in every action. He has a lot to improve because he’s very young, but yes, he’s surprised me.”

He also revealed which teammates impressed him most:

“Many. I haven’t met many, but I have met others, and I already knew their quality, but above all, I’d say those who come from below, from B. I was surprised by their quality, because I didn’t know them that well.”

Looking ahead, Garcia made his expectations clear, “Win a lot, win as many titles as possible. Last year in the Champions League, we fell just short; this year, the goal is obviously to reach the final.

“Above all, I think we need to keep growing, keep playing well, and from there, everything will come.”

With the season just beginning, Garcia’s confidence and adaptability suggest he is ready to play his part in Barcelona’s push for domestic and European glory.
