According to a recent report from Fichajes, it has come to light that Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a major move for Dani Olmo, with a €70 million offer ready to test Barcelona’s resolve.

The Spanish midfielder, who only joined Barça from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2024, could be allowed to leave as the Catalan club look to address pressing financial concerns.

Olmo enjoyed a productive debut season at the Camp Nou, contributing to 19 goals across all competitions. However, Barcelona’s current transfer market is being shaped by significant economic pressure.

Sources close to the board suggest that the club could be willing to sanction a sale for a figure that would help reduce the wage bill and free funds for player registrations.

As such, the Blaugrana have already succeeded in registering Joan Garcia, but further moves remain contingent on generating revenue, which includes registrations of Gerard Martin, Roony Bardghji and Marcus Rashford.

Why are Barcelona open to selling Olmo?

The rise of academy product Fermin Lopez and the return of Gavi from injury have pushed Olmo down Hansi Flick’s pecking order.

While his quality is not in question, internal competition has made his starting role less certain. Flick is reportedly open to viewing the midfielder’s departure as a strategic decision, balancing sporting impact with financial gain.

For Tottenham, Olmo represents an ideal reinforcement as Spurs are seeking to strengthen their creative options in the wake of James Maddison’s injury.

With the Spaniard’s versatility, vision, and experience in European competitions, he is being looked at as a strong fit for Tottenham’s plans.

The next few weeks will be decisive. If Tottenham follow through with their €70 million proposal and Barcelona’s financial situation remains tight, a transfer could move quickly.

While losing Olmo would be a sporting setback for the Catalans, it could also be the financial lifeline they need to reshape their squad before the window closes.
