Ahead of the game against Augsburg, Kevin Trapp is viewing the battle for a top-six place as a great opportunity, while he also gives his thoughts on the season run-in and his role as a leader in a young team.

Kevin Trapp on ...

... Eintracht’s situation: “We know that the way we performed in the first half in Stuttgart was unacceptable. You can’t win games like that, no matter the opponent. It’s our responsibility to show what we can do out on the pitch – with passion and emotion.”

... the game against Augsburg: “On Friday we need to think less and just do what’s made us so strong in the past: play with intensity as a team, support each other, and stay positive in situations when things aren’t going so well. It won’t be so much about tactics against Augsburg, but more about showing what we can do on the pitch. Our team is very strong physically, we cover a lot of ground and we can get a crowd going. That’s what matters: the desire to win the game as a team.”

… the season run-in: “We’ve got a great opportunity to play in Europe again next season and we should be looking forward to that. Our next games certainly won’t be easy, but they’re big ones. Before the campaign started, a lot of people said that this would be a season of transition because we lost a lot of players. I think it’s a positive that we’ve got the chance to qualify for Europe again. It’s a privilege to still have matters in our own hands at this stage of the season. I’m certain that we’ll perform in a way that’s deserving of playing in Europe next term. As a team, together with the fans.” … the fans: “The fans do a really good job. I thought the way they stood by us after the Stuttgart game was extraordinary. I didn’t expect that.” … his role as a leader in the team: “I’ve been here a few years now and it feels like we sit here at the same stage every season asking ourselves ‘what’s going on?’ We’ve got a very young team with a great deal of potential. We’ve also got players who aren’t familiar with the intensity of the Bundesliga – it’s new territory for some of them. I’m fortunate that I’m able to speak a few languages and I try to help the boys when they have questions. I don’t feel like anyone is shirking away. I can see that the team is alive and that we want to be successful together.”
