Inter still have some evident defensive problems to sort out with just a week to go before the Serie A season begins.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who argue that the Nerazzurri continued to show defensive frailty in their 4-2 friendly loss to Villarreal yesterday evening.

Encouraging signs accompanied by defensive worries has been a theme in Inter’s preseason campaign, and this was certainly the case in yesterday’s loss to Villarreal.

The likes of Robin Gosens and Romelu Lukaku looked sharper than ever, but the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar in particular were singled out by the Corriere for displays that looked a long way off of their best.

Meanwhile, the team is not defending as a unit the way that it should, with a lack of compactness all over the pitch, whilst midfielder Kristjan Asllani gave away the ball in dangerous areas on a few occasions, a worry if he is to be the backup to Marcelo Brozovic in a pivotal role in midfield.

A week is still left to go before Inter step onto the pitch against Lecce to kick off their Serie A campaign, but they will want to make the best use of it possible to ensure that they arrive with their defense looking functional.
