Inter Milan and Udinese face off in Serie A’s second round of fixtures on Sunday, with both sides enjoying contrasting starts to the 2025/26 campaign.
The Nerazzurri sat at the top of the table after the opening weekend, following their emphatic 5-0 victory over Torino. Udinese will be seeking their first win after drawing 1-1 with Hellas Verona.
Cristian Chivu could welcome back midfielder Davide Frattesi after the Italian international successfully underwent hernia surgery in July. The 25-year-old was an unused substitute in the first match against Torino.
Inter completed four significant signings this summer, including Croatian midfielder Petar Sucic from Dinamo Zagreb, Brazilian winger Luis Henrique from Marseille, French striker Ange-Yoan Bonny from Parma for €23 million, and Andy Diouf from Lens. Francesco Pio Esposito has also been promoted to the first-team squad.
Hakan Calhanoglu returns from suspension after missing the Torino clash, while no major injury concerns plague the squad.
New signing Adam Buksa is excited to join the side and is eager to show his talent right away. Mattea Palma is still sidelined with his muscle injury that will keep him out of the field until at least early September.
Other than that, there are no fresh injury concerns, and Kosta Runjaic might start with the same team on their trip to San Siro, which secured a draw against Hellas Verona last week.
Chivu’s men opened the campaign in devastating fashion, demolishing Torino 5-0 at San Siro with Marcus Thuram netting twice and Alessandro Bastoni scoring a spectacular goal. The victory marked a perfect start for the new coach, who has assembled one of Serie A’s most formidable squads.
The Nerazzurri have been in scintillating form, scoring 11 goals in their last five competitive matches while maintaining the league’s joint-best defensive record.
Runjaic’s side showed resilience in their season opener, earning a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Verona through Thomas Kristensen’s goal. However, they registered a victory over Carrarese in their Coppa Italia match before their Serie A season opener by 2-0.
The Friulani have at San Siro as their away record makes for grim reading, with eight consecutive defeats in all competitions at Inter’s fortress.
Inter Milan: Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro Martinez.
Udinese: Sava; Bartola, Kristensen, Solet; Ehizibue, Lovric, Karlstrom, Atta, Zemura; Bravo, Davis.
UK fans can watch the match on Paramount+ and DAZN, which offer comprehensive Serie A coverage.
