Inter Milan’s second consecutive foray into the Champions League knockout stage pits them against defending Primeira Liga champions Porto on Wednesday.

Simone Inzaghi’s side defied the odds to leave Barcelona in their wake as they claimed a runner-up finish in Group C behind perennial Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

But last season’s Serie A runners-up haven’t won three Champions League home matches on the trot since 2010 under Jose Mourinho, meaning history could plague them here.

Porto finished top of Group B ahead of Club Brugge, Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid (W4, L2), scoring more goals (12) than their two closest competitors combined.

Conceicao’s men opened their group-stage campaign with back-to-back defeats before stringing together four consecutive victories and will now aim to equal their longest winning run in the competition.

On top of their free-scoring Champions League form, the Portuguese giants have only lost one of their seven previous encounters against Italian opposition in major European competitions (W4, D2).
