Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has made a swift return to training despite a slight injury scare against Red Star Belgrade.
This according to Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInter1908. They report that the Argentine has gotten right back to work in view of this weekend’s Serie A clash with Torino.
Inter captain Martinez did not start against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday.
However, the Argentine did come off the bench during the second half.
It was an eventful substitute appearance for Martinez.
The Inter captain scored the Nerazzurri’s third goal of the 4-0 win. He benefited from some good work by Mehdi Taremi to set up a chance and then finished clinically.
This means that Martinez has now scored in each of his last two matches for Inter.
The 27-year-old had caused one or two worries by failing to score for several matches in a row at the start of the season.
This goal drought coincided with an evident lack of fitness and sharpness. Martinez lacked a proper preseason for Inter, as he returned to training late after the Copa America in the summer.
Martinez didn’t just score against Red Star. He also won his team the penalty from which Mehdi Taremi scored their fourth goal of the evening.
But then there was a sour note on an otherwise very positive evening for Martinez.
The Inter captain seemed to be in some evident discomfort towards the end of the match.
Martinez was able to see out the match. However, he seemed to be limping after being on the end of a heavy challenge.
Naturally, this has created a worry for Inter. The Nerazzurri will hardly want to be without their captain, who already missed a Serie A clash with Lecce earlier this season.
However, the Corriere report, Martinez has returned to training as normal.
The 27-year-old Inter captain completed a normal session with the rest of the squad.
Therefore, there is no question that Martinez will be available for Saturday evening’s Serie A clash with Torino.
