Inter Milan are the bookies’ favorites to win this season’s Serie A title with just more than half of the season having been played.

However, the Nerazzurri are not the top of the table. They sit second on the log and two points behind crosstown rivals AC Milan.

Inter have been superb throughout this season, nonetheless. They have picked 47 out of 66 possible points after 21 matches.

This includes 14 wins and five draws. The team’s only two losses came against rivals AC Milan at home in October and a surprise upset by Sampdoria in early January.

What are the odds Inter will keep their momentum and go on to win the Scudetto this season?

Arguably The Best Team this Season

Inter Milan are arguably the best team in Italy this season according to leading sportsbooks and pundits. It’s the team to back if you do a little bit of sports betting and you can do it from these major betting sites here.

Many pundit’s and plaudits alike argue that no team comes close to Inter this season in terms of squad depth. The last time they looked this good, they went on to win five consecutive Serie A titles.

Head Coach Antonio Conte has signed several experienced players mainly from the Premier League such as Alexis Sanchez, Romelo Lukaku, Arturo Vidal, Ashley Young and Christian Eriksen, to name a few.

However, these players adapted to his system pretty quickly and have played a crucial role in the team’s current record.

Inter Milan’s greatest strength this season has been its attackers. With 51 goals scored, Inter ranks first in the league in terms of goals scored.

Comparatively, it has scored six goals more than first-place AC Milan and ten more than Juventus. When it comes to defense, the Nerazzurri fair pretty well, tying for 23 goals conceded with AC Milan.

Antonio Conte Is Keeping The Team Focused

Antonio Conte has one goal in mind this season— to stay focused one game at a time to win the Serie A. When asked about whether he thinks Inter are the favorites to win the Scudetto last December, the former Chelsea manager denied this, saying there were multiple teams capable of winning the championship.

Sure enough, Inter isn’t the only team with the desire to lift the Serie A title this season. As mentioned, city rivals AC Milan have already defeated them in the Serie A. Roma, are currently in fourth, aren’t far behind either.

Juventus and Napoli could also challenge Inter Milan for the Serie A title. The Bianconerisit third and are seven points below AC Milan. Lazio and Napoli are currently fifth and sixth with 40 and 37 points respectively.

All these teams are within the realm of potentially mounting a serious title challenge.

Juventus Have Been Struggling

Juventus’ domination in the Serie A could come to an end and miss out on winning a tenth straight Scudetto. The team’s inconsistency began back in October with draws against last-placed Crotone and mid-table side Hellas Verona.

The Old Lady extended its lackluster performance in November and December, drawing a few more times and losing to Fiorentina just before Christmas and to Inter Milan in January.

To be fair, Juventus’ record this season isn’t that terrible. As mentioned, they sit third with 42 points and have a game in hand. A win will hand them 45 points, good enough to rank third in the table but within 4 points of AC Milan and 2 points off of Inter.

They have been on a winning streak in the league since they lost to Inter in mid-January and have since gone on another winning streak.

As such, Inter Milan shouldn’t count on Juventus’ below par performance in the first half of the season to continue for long.

Quite the contrary, they should be worried the Old Lady could bounce back into first-place and win their tenth consecutive title.

The AC Milan Problem

This season’s Serie A is incredibly competitive. But it could end as a nightmare for Inter Milan should their long-term rivals end up nabbing it. AC Milan are also determined to stop the Nerazzurri from lifting the Serie A trophy.

In other words, whether Inter Milan lifts the Scudetto this season might come down to how determined AC Milan are. Based on their record so far, the Rossoneri seem extremely focused on winning the championship this season.

They started the season on a high note, going nearly 20 games without a loss in the league. Their first taste of defeat in the Serie A came on January 6th at the hands of defending champions Juventus.

They experienced defeat a second time two weeks later at the hands of Atalanta. That said, it’s impressive AC Milan have only lost twice and draw four times in a league with multiple contenders this season.

Surprisingly, the Rossoneri don’t even have many internationally famous players, unlike Juventus and Inter Milan.

Zlatan Ibrahimović, the glaring exception, is AC Milan’s most decorated player, a forward who keeps defying age to outperform much younger players.

Next up is Mario Mandzukic, the former Juventus forward from Qatar-based Al-Duhail last season.

Inter’s Schedule And Injury List

Inter Milan have a fairly tough schedule as the Serie A heads to the second half of the season. They have a game against Lazio at home rivals AC Milan away before the end of this month.

If they take care of these teams, then they’ll need to win over Atalanta and Sassuolo to stay in title contention.

The Nerazzurri also have dates with Napoli, Roma and Juventus before the season ends. They already defeated most of these teams in the first half of the season.

But nothing is guaranteed in football and they must work hard to win against each side once more. If it means anything, Inter Milan can take consolation in the fact that both AC Milan and Juventus have equally tough schedules.

In fact, Juventus has a more challenging schedule given they are still in the UEFA Champions League.

Conclusion

Inter Milan might be the team bookies think will win this year’s Serie A title. But things are changing. They are not at the top of the table and Juventus are back to winning ways.

For Inter to win, they will need to get back to the top and fight to stay there until May.
