Former Inter defender Riccardo Ferri has shared his thoughts and feelings on the style of play that Inter have used in the early stages of the 2020/21 season.

“You see an Inter with front-wheel drive, which plays very high and with wing-backs that push up a lot. This leads to balance problems. The number of goals conceded sounds strange compared to last year,” Ferri explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, which was aired a short time ago.

Ferri then commented on the team and what Inter manager Antonio Conte needs to do: “The team? Experience is not enough, balance is needed. Conte must seek balance between the two phases, the absences weigh a lot. So far he has not complained about the owners, we know he is a sanguine but for now he has been calm.”

The former Italian national team player proceeded to speak on Ivan Perisic, who has been transformed into a wing-back this season by Conte, who has had numerous successes when transforming wingers into wing-backs during his years as a coach.

“Perisic struggles to cover the whole flank, he is positive going forward but then gets caught out in the defensive phase. I see that he is improving, he must find the position and understand what Conte is asking of him.”

Ferri came through the ranks at Inter and spent the first 13 of his 15 year playing career at senior level with the club. In his 15 years with the club, Ferri made 418 appearances across all competitions, during which he scored nine goals, tallied one assist and won three pieces of silverware, including two UEFA Cups.
