Inter have set their sights on Colombia international Juan Cabal of Hellas Verona, but face strong competition from Lazio, as he agreed terms with them weeks ago.
The Nerazzurri are seeking a new left-footed defender who can play in the back three or as a full-back, after Canada international Tajon Buchanan suffered a broken tibia at the Copa America and was ruled out for four months.
According to Fabrizio Romano and Calciomercato.com, the primary target now is Cabal.
The 23-year-old made the move to Serie A in 2022 from Atletico Nacional for Hellas Verona, where he made 33 Serie A appearances.
Inter are in the initial stages of an approach, which could be a problem, because he had agreed personal terms with Lazio some weeks ago.
It was meant to be a double deal with Tijjani Noslin, but they were separated to help spread the cost of the operations.
Verona are looking for €10m to sell, though the other hold-up was that Lazio only valued him at €7m.
The more time it takes Lazio to complete the swoop, the more likely Cabal will be tempted to go elsewhere, especially as Stade Rennais have also been linked with the Colombian.
At the same time, the Aquile might no longer be interested in Cabal after agreeing a €9m deal with Arsenal for Nuno Tavares.
