AS Monaco and Équipe de France midfielder Youssouf Fofana (25) has expressed his delight at being called up for EURO 2024 as part of Didier Deschamps’ provisional 25-man squad announced yesterday.
The midfielder, currently with 17 caps and three goals for the national team, has enjoyed a stellar season with his club, making 31 Ligue 1 appearances and contributing four goals and four assists in his role as a defensive midfielder. Statistically, the Frenchman is the most creative midfielder in the league this season, with no midfielder making more key passes (20) or through passes (66).
Speaking to L’Équipe following the announcement, Fofana was looking forward to playing alongside one player in particular:
“Of course I’m a happy man. It’s a reward for my season and my appearances for the national team until now. Another competition! I will try my best to impress, but I am very happy this evening. I wasn’t surprised because I worked hard for this, but I am very happy.”
The Frenchman was also happy to finally have the opportunity to play alongside N’Golo Kanté (33), called into the squad by Didier Deschamps for the first time in almost two years:

I’ve already heard all about him as a person, and we all know the quality of the player, so to have him on our side for this competition can only be a good thing.”
