Hull City are expected to be one of the busier Championship clubs this summer, following Acun Ilicali’s takeover of the Tigers a few months back.

With Hull City-related rumours gathering pace at the moment, a report from the Rotherham Advertiser has credited the Championship outfit with an interest in Rotherham United striker Michael Smith.

Set to be out of contract at the end of this month at the New York Stadium, the Millers are trying to keep hold of their talisman, whilst Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday are also in pursuit.

Netting 24 times in 54 games for the Millers in all competitions last season, he also chipped with a further seven assists.

How much did the club pay for Greg Docherty?

£201,000 £301,000 £401,000 £501,000

It remains to be seen how Smith’s situation plays out as he edges closer to the expiry of his contract at the Yorkshire club, with Hull appearing to place themselves in a good position to pounce.

The verdict

Whilst there are plenty of extremely exciting deals in the pipeline, it is important that they cast their eyes over the EFL for balancing reasons.

Smith is someone who has proved himself in the Championship before and could certainly challenge for regular football within a new-look Hull side.

A physical forward who wins the majority of his offensive battles, he is someone who can also link the play well and drop into some intelligent positions.

Smith ticks a lot of boxes as a Championship forward, with Hull in need of bolstering their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
