When George Thorne joined Derby County on a permanent deal in 2014, he would have been looking to help the club seal promotion to the Premier League during his time at Pride Park.

After being limited to just three appearances in the 2014/15 campaign due to a serious knee injury, the midfielder featured regularly for the Rams in the following season.

Thorne provided six direct goal contributions in 34 Championship games as Derby secured a fifth-place finish in the league standings.

Unfortunately for the midfielder, he was unable to participate in the club’s play-off semi-final showdown with Hull City as he suffered a double leg break against Ipswich Town.

Derby went on to lose to the Tigers and Thorne missed the entirety of the 2016/17 campaign as a result of his injury.

When the midfielder was fit enough to return to action, he struggled to make an impact for the Rams and was eventually loaned out to Luton Town in the second-half of the 2018/19 season.

During his time at Kenilworth Road, Thorne made three appearances for the club in League One as they secured promotion to the Championship.

Following a separate loan spell at Oxford United, the midfielder decided to join the third-tier outfit on a permanent basis in the 2020 January transfer window.

Whilst the 28-year-old would have been hoping to deliver the goods for the Yellows on a consistent basis, he ultimately failed to establish himself as a key player at the Kassam Stadium as he only featured on three occasions in League One after making this particular switch.

Thorne’s issues with injuries in recent years have unfortunately had a negative impact on his career.

If a professional side is willing to give him the chance to prove his worth, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if the midfielder steps up to the mark as he clearly possesses a great deal of talent.
