The 20-year-old has been linked with a range of top clubs after impressing in Serie A’s bottom club Brescia. It would be crazy if he stayed there another season and doesn’t try to land a move that will see him play Champions League football.
That’s what the best players want to do, right?
Interestingly, Brescia is where Pirlo played before going on to win silverware with AC Milan and Juventus, as well as earning 116 caps for his country along the way.
The time will soon come for Tonali to move on.
“He is very good but he is different from me on the pitch,” Pirlo told Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (via The Mirror).
“He has everything to be a champion but he is more a midfielder for a two-man midfield.
“He could already play for a great team; he is the best in his league.”
Earlier this season Brescia owner Massimo Cellino — formerly of Leeds United — said it would take a world-record offer to take Tonali away from Brescia.
“In my view, he’d be better off remaining with Brescia,” said Cellino, as per The Sun. “The other day, his agent and his parents were telling me about this €50m evaluation. I replied that for me he is worth £300m, which means I don’t want to sell.”
But with Tonali about to enter the final year of his contract at Brescia, and the club fighting for Serie A survival, I really don’t think Cellino will be in a position to reject offers in that £50m region.
