Chelsea have lost a few of their top quality young players over recent seasons, and we are hoping that the same will not happen with the hugely talented Harvey Vale.

The versatile 18-year-old will have a year left on his current contract at Chelsea this summer and at the moment it has been unclear whether he will be willing to sign an extension.

As with all top quality young players, Vale will probably feel like he can be at a slightly lower club and play regular football in the top division, and he probably could. Just look at Marc Guehi and Tino Livramento as fine examples of that.

But lately, Vale has been regularly involved in first team training under Thomas Tuchel, and he has also been getting some minutes on the pitch for the senior team.

This will hopefully spur him on to sign a new deal with us, and his latest words on the Chelsea website provides hope for that…

“Obviously there have been some highs and lows but I feel like it’s been steady and good, and then recently towards the Christmas period this season it accelerated,” Vale said. “I’ve become a bit more involved with the team now.

“I train quite regularly with them and I feel like it’s helping me a lot. I feel like I’m improving a lot. The senior players give me advice and I love it.”

In our FA Cup match at Luton, Vale brought on when the team were behind and there was still half-an-hour to go, and that meant a lot to him..

“I was really proud of that, because the team was losing in one of the biggest competitions in England and the manager and his staff showed trust in me to bring me on,” Vale continued. “That really meant a lot and coming on when the team was 2-1 down and then winning 3-2 shows I did some things right. That was probably one of the proudest moments I have had so far.”
