Harry Maguire reveals what went wrong in Erik ten Hag's first Premier League game as Man Utd manager
Captain Harry Maguire has discussed what went wrong for Manchester United in their first Premier League game under Erik ten Hag, stating that the first goal knocked the players back 'really badly'.
Much was expected from Man Utd in Ten Hag's first competitive game in charge, but they were shockingly beaten 2-1 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, with a brace from Pascal Gross proving to be the difference between the sides.
Speaking after the game to Sky Sports, Maguire stated: "It's was disappointing, the worst possible start. At half-time, to be 2-0 down at Old Trafford isn't good enough.
"We huffed and puffed and we got one back, and we had chances to equalise but it's a bad start for us.
When asked what went wrong in the first half, Maguire replied: "I think we actually started the game pretty well. We started on the front foot and we were the team that had control of the game.
"When we conceded the first goal it knocked us back really badly, we stopped playing from then and they took control of the game.
"We need to look at not letting that first goal set us back as much as it did, but we also have to be better on the ball. We gave the ball away too much in that first half, especially after the first goal and we gave them encouragement to come forward and attack us.
"Yeah it was a nightmare start to be 2-0 down at half-time."
